Summary:Thirteen-year-olds Jonah and Chip are reeling from the news that they're both missing children from history, kidnapped from their proper time period. Before they can fully absorb this revelation, a time purist named JB zaps Chip and another boy, Alex, back to the fifteenth century, where they supposedly belong. Determined not to lose their friends, Jonah and his sister, Katherine, grab Chip's arms just as he's being sent away. The result? Jonah and Katherine also end up in the fifteenth century, where they decidedly do not belong.Chip's true identity is Edward V, king of England, and Alex is his younger brother, Richard, Duke of York. But Chip is convinced that his uncle, Richard of Gloucester, plans to kill them and seize the throne for himself.JB promises that if the kids can "fix time," he will allow them to return to the present day. But how can they possibly return home safely when history claims that Chip and Alex were murdered? In a riveting tale that climaxes on the battlefield at Bosworth, master storyteller Margaret Peterson Haddix brings readers back in time to an unforgettable moment in history and plunges them into the adventure of a lifetime.

My Review: I was hoping this would be good as the first, but I was sadly disappointed. I mean it was OK, but it was just 'blah'. The concept and the plot was kinda good, but, just, for some reason, I didn't like it. The ending is the only good part to me, and of course it doesn't answer your most burning question: Who is Jonah? Well, you can read it and maybe correct me, on thinking this is a -_- book, or you can agree with me. Your choice.

Exert: "Stop it!" Katherine said. "Stop fighting! If we've got any hope of getting out this place, we'll all have to work together."
"Fighting? Who's fighting?" Chip asked.
"Squabbling, then," Katherine said, " You know what I mean."
"We're in the 15th century. In 1483 even squabbling involves bows and arrows or giant spears." Chip said harshly.
"Or lances." Alex said.
"Swords." Chip said.
"Battering Rams." Alex said.
"You're not making me feel any better about the 15th century." Katherine said. -pg. 168

Summary: Thirteen-year-old Jonah has always known that he was adopted, and he's never thought it was any big deal. Then he and a new friend, Chip, who's also adopted, begin receiving mysterious letters. The first one says, "You are one of the missing." The second one says, "Beware! They're coming back to get you."Jonah, Chip, and Jonah's sister, Katherine, are plunged into a mystery that involves the FBI, a vast smuggling operation, an airplane that appeared out of nowhere -- and people who seem to appear and disappear at will. The kids discover they are caught in a battle between two opposing forces that want very different things for Jonah and Chip's lives.Do Jonah and Chip have any choice in the matter? And what should they choose when both alternatives are horrifying?

My Review: This book was for sale in my schools' Scolastic TAB but the very next day I saw both this one and the second on display in my local Library. It was a sign! LOL Any way I got them and I finished this one and wen right in the second; I totally recommend doing this! It started out really well, but it got really dry, and slow for my taste and little ways into the book. But I pushed on and got to the end which W-O-W. And personally I think Jonah is the guy that invented time traveling but I guess we'll just have to read and find out ;)

Exert: "Chip! If they say, 'Great news! We got an offer to give out free airplane rides this morning'- don't get on the plane! Do you hear me? Don't get on any freaking plane!" - pg. 239

Summary:New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Crusie teams up with USA Today bestselling author Bob Mayer to write a sizzling, high-octane romantic adventure about a straight-talking woman and a straight-shooting man…Lucy Armstrong is a director of television commercials who's just been recruited to finish a four-day action movie shoot. But she arrives on the set to discover that the directing staff has quit, the make-up artist is suicidal, the stars are egomaniacs, the stunt director is her ex-husband, and the lead actor has just acquired as an adviser a Green Beret who has the aggravating habit of always being right.Green Beret Captain JT Wilder had thought that hiring on as a military consultant for a movie star was a good deal: easy money and easier starlets. Instead he has to babysit a bumbling comedian, dodge low-flying helicopters, and resist his attraction to a director who bears a distracting resemblance to Wonder Woman. Then the CIA calls and he realizes that somebody is taking “shooting a movie” much too literally.Full of suspense and humor, non-stop action and fast-paced dialogue, Don't Look Down is the perfect blend of male and female, adventure and romance, Mayer and Crusie.

My Review: funny, but concept was ragged and chem didn't click I love Jenny and Bob in Agnes and the Hitman so it was a no-brainer that I should read this. Sorry to say I was disappointed. The plot was a little jumpy, and I never figured what was real, fake, or pretended. Including the romantic side. JT is cold, but then oohhhhhh all of a sudden through in some Wonder-Wear and he's hot? I have Katie Perry's "Hot and Cold" playing in my head now. -_- If just didn't seem to click to me, but that is just me. But for the most part, it was funny and I loved some the diloge. I swear I am going to make a tee-shirt that says "Swamp Rat Airlines: You Call, We Haul" with the alligator camo! lol You have to read it to understand :)

Summary:SHE’S FROM THE WRONG SIDE OF THE TRACKS Liberty Jones has dreams and determination that will take her far away from Welcome, Texas—if she can keep her wild heart from ruling her mind. Hardy Cates sees Liberty as completely off-limits. His own ambitions are bigger than Welcome, and Liberty is a complication he doesn’t need. But something magical and potent draws them to each other, in a dangerous attraction that is stronger than both of them.HE’S THE ONE MAN SHE CAN’T HAVEWhen Hardy leaves town to pursue his plans, Liberty finds herself alone with a young sister to raise. Soon Liberty is under the spell of a billionaire tycoon—a Sugar Daddy, one might say. But the relationship goes deeper than people think, and Liberty begins to discover secrets about her own family’s past. Will they find their hearts’ desires—or will HEARTBREAK tear them apart? Two men. One woman. A choice that can make her or break her. A woman you’ll root for every step of the way. A love story you’ll never forget.

My Review:I knew who was going to get together right a way. Why? Because I already read the third book. Ha-Ha. So I started this book knowing the two that are in love in the beginning actually become sister/brother in-laws, and I still liked it. I cried when Hardy left, laughed when Liberty mad friends with Churchill and at times was mad at Gage too. It was a hot, sexy read but at the same time tender. Also, most of these 'romantic' books for women are not very true to life; yeah 'they could happen', but when does that really happen???? Well in this book, everything is sooooooooooo ture to life. From the trailer-parks to the fu-fu side of Texas to money issues and raising children to the rich and famous, it all rang true in Lisa Kleypas' unique voice. I suggest reading this first Blue Eyed Devil (who could that be?!lol) , and then Smooth Talking Stranger. I promise this tangy-sweet Texan love triangle will satisfy you completely.

Exert: "The sunset finished with a long crack of light rimming the horizon, as if the sky were a big door and God was taking one last peak. Good night, Welcome, I thought, and went into the trailer." - 14 (I know it isn't very good, but I couldn't decide so I just randomly opened!)

Summary:Tess Newhart knows her ex-boyfriend Nick Jamieson isn't the right guy for her. He's caviar and champagne; she's take-out Chinese pot stickers. He's an uptight Republican lawyer; she was raised in a commune. He wants to get ahead in business; she just wants…him. But there's no way Tess will play second fiddle to his job.Yet somehow she finds herself agreeing to play his fiancée on a weekend business trip that could make or break Nick's career. And while he's trying to convince Tess that he needs her in his respectable world, Tess is doing her best to keep her opinions to herself and her hands off Nick.

My Review: The only reason I got this was because of the cover. Well that and I adore Jennifer! This book was a typical funny, get-back together story, with some twists. I love all the characters because they are all different and fun, and strong in their own unique way. Also I really liked the dialogue of all things! I loved some of the comebacks and fights in this book. Oh, and no doubt you will respect pianos after this

Exert: "You wouldn't believe how they met." She sat up in her chair as she warmed to her story. "Nick told me he was tutoring in college as part of a work-study program, and Park showed up, on the verge of getting kicked our of school because of this really important English paper he'd flunked. On Moby Dick."
"That's the whale, right? I saw the movie."
"Right," Tess said. " Only when Park showed Nick the paper, the prof had written across the top of it, 'Unfortunately, Mr.Patterson, the whale dies in the end.'"
"Park didn't know the whale died?" Gina sounded confused. "He died in the movie."
"Yeah, he dies in Cliff Notes, too," Tess said, laughing. "So Nick said he asked Park how he could possibly have missed that part, and Park said that when he was a kid, his parents only bought him educational toys, and one of the games they bought him was the Moby Dick game-"
"The Moby Dick game?"
"- but the game was meant for kids, so in the game-"
"The whale makes it," Gina finished.
"Exactly," Tess said.

Summary:Some secrets shouldn't be kept...

But when a mysterious boy named Ben starts junior year at her high school, Camelia's life becomes anything but ordinary.Rumored to be somehow responsible for his ex-girlfriend's accidental death, Ben is immediately ostracized by everyone on campus. Except for Camelia. She's reluctant to believe he's trouble, even when her friends try to convince her otherwise. Instead, she's inexplicably drawn to Ben. And to his touch. But soon, Camelia is receiving eerie phone calls and strange packages with threatening notes. Ben insists she is in danger, and that he can help-but can he be trusted? She knows he's hiding something... but he's not the only one with a secret. From the best-selling author of Blue is for Nightmares comes a new series that's sure to be a thrilling and chilling teen favorite.

My Review: This book was in ways better then what I thought and in other ways different. I thought it would be really junvinelle but it wasn't! The author wrote it so it seems the main charaters are thinking more than clothes or how they look; which, let's face it, most teens think like that. But it was scray, and that was something I didn't expect! It also very true to life. Also, what Ben's "thing" is, is a REAL good twist! Plus, duh, who it it, is W-H-O-A. This a great book, and I totally thing that if you read this you need the playlist from Laurie's site, which I didn't have but I would have liked to have. AwEsOmE book; can't give it enough praise. But I will say: I cried at the end. PS - I wish Ben was real! Unfair!! :)-

Summary: Jace Montgomery was a stranger in Chandler. Tall, proud, and ruggedly handsome, he would make any woman's heart beat faster...Even shy, sweet Nellie Grayson -- Nellie, who thought only of her beautiful younger sister's happiness. With Nellie's tireless aid, Terel Grayson easily became the belle of Chandler, Colorado.Yet Jace, homesick for his closeknit family in Maine, took immediately to Nellie. For the first time, Nellie was the center of attention. It was a heady, delightful feeling...almost as wonderful as the moment when Jace gave her her very first kiss.Nellie was sure her romantic idyll would end -- how long could Jace resist the lovely Terel's charms? But with the help of an enchanting new friend, Nellie would discover that her flirtatious sister might not be the woman to win the gallant Jace Montgomery....

My Review: I didn't really have any inkling to read this but then my mom read the part about the "Kitchen". It's in the first 20 pages, and after she read it had to, too! I promise you will read the beginning and then you won't want to put this book down till you have finished it!!!! It has Kane & Huston Taggert which are in "Twin of Ice" also by Jude, which I am planning to read, but from his book I already love them.(Also there is a book about Jace's parents). But anyway, you can't help but feel sorry for Nellie, love Jace, despise Tara, and laugh at Berni. The only bump for me was that, it's great that Jace loves Nellie from 1st sight but it didn't click as real for me. I'm a more "over time(and short by that) you realize you love them" kind of person, then a "BOOM, I am going to marry that person";And Jace is definitely the latter. But this is an adorable book, so sit down with some pie and enjoy this book that has love, laughter, and a perfect ending!

Exert:"Ah, men like obedience. Nellie, let me give you a little advice from somebody who's known a few men. I don't know if you've heard this or not, but there's a saying that a man's best friend is a dog and that diamonds are a girl's best friend. Man's best is a dog because that's what he wants a woman to be: a dog. He wants a pretty little wife, preferably blonde, who will do whatever he wants, when he wants it. He wants to able to say, 'Come on, let's go,' and she'll get up, tail a-waggin', and follow him. He doesn't want her to ask questions about where or when or how, and he does not want her to have an opinion. For a woman, she's found out that she can trust something like diamonds because they don't run around all night, nor do they constantly point out how she should behave."

The Hero and The Crown

Status: My Mom's Bookshelf

Summary:From childhood, Aerin had been haunted by the story of her mother-a "witch-woman" who en-spelled the king and then died in childbirth, leaving behind a newborn daughter and an heir-less land. Left to her own devices, Aerin grew up wild, doing her best to live up to her reputation as the disappointment of the realm. But little did the young princess know the long-dormant powers of her mother would wield their own destiny, and leave Aerin with a duty to her scornful homeland that she couldn't refuse.

My Review: I'll tell you the truth: I didn't want to read this. This is the prequel to "The Blue Sword" and that was ok, and I understood what had happened, so why did I need to read this? Well, when I asked my mother she said it was a great story. And I did read it, but, as you can tell, it took me forever! But guess what? It was wwwwwwwwaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better than the Blue Sword! Hero&Crown started off very nicely, because it tells you what's going on then it jumps back and explains a WhOlE bunch! The it comes back to the present; the Northerners are planning to attack them and Aerin wants to go but Maur, the Black Dragon has risen again. I can't give too much away, but let me just say: there needs to be one between this and Blue Sword that is tells you if Aerin goes back to Luthe! I <3 Luthe!!!!!!!!!!! K, that's all.

Exert: " I have put you on a horse - that same horse - and watched you ride away from me before. I thought I should never get over it that first time...... I know I shall never get over it this time. If you do it, someday, a third time, it will probably kill me." Aerin tried to smile, but Luthe stopped her with a kiss.
"You can't scare me," Aerin said," You told me long ago you are not mortal."
"I never said I can't be killed," replied Luthe. " If you wish to chop logic with me, dearest love, you must make sure of your premises."
" I shall practice them - while - I shall practice, that i may dazzle you when next we meet.
There was a little silence, and Luthe said, " You need not try to dazzle me."
"I must go," Aerin said hopelessly, and flung herself at Talat just as she had done once before. "I will see you again.
Luthe nodded.
She almost could not say the words: "But it will be a long time - long and long."
Luthe nodded again.
"But we shall meet again."
Luthe nodded a third time.
"Gods of all the worlds, say something," she cried.
"I love you," said Luthe. " I will love you till the stars crumble, which is less idle threat than is usual to lovers on parting. Go quickly, for truly I can not bear this."
She closed her legs violently around nervous Talat, and he leaped into a gallop. Long after Aerin was out of sight, Luthe lay full on the ground, and pressed his ear to it, and listened to Talat's hoof beats carrying Aerin father, and father away. - 194

Cover/Title: The two goof ups are these: The horses shouldn't have a saddle and Aerin had her hair down. The title is OK, but it could have been better.

The Cupcake Queen

Name: The Cupcake Queen
Author: Heather Helper
Pages: 242
Start Date: January 20
Finish Date: January 21
Type: Fiction-Family Life; Paperback
Status: My Bookshelf
Rating:

Summary: When her mother moves them from the city to a small town to open up a cupcake bakery, Penny’s life isn’t what she expected. Her father has stayed behind, and Mom isn’t talking about what the future holds for their family. And then there’s Charity, the girl who plays mean pranks almost daily. There are also bright spots in Hog’s Hollow—like Tally, an expert in Rock Paper Scissors, and Marcus, the boy who is always running on the beach. But just when it looks as though Penny is settling in, her parents ask her to make a choice that will turn everything upside down again. A sweet novel about love, creativity, and accepting life’s unexpected turns.

My Review: I didn't expect much from this book but it is good! When Penny moves from a big city to a little 'hick' town, I know how she feels. But then she makes friends with some odd balls and develops a crush and things look up. But then some unexpected things happen. But I think Penny takes it all very maturely. She could have been a lot more immature but I think she is a very strong character. The only reason this does not earn 5 daises is because I'm one of the people that I like the book to end with a little more detail (ex. = What will happen to Tally? Will Penny and her mom get their own house? Does Charity warm up to Penny? Is Marcus just a crush? Or will it be more in the future? What about Mr.Fish and Tally's aunt!?!?) I think there should be a sequel that is about Penny's mom finding a new love! What you say? Agree with me? But when you sit down to read this, yeah, you could have cupcakes , but I recommend Jolly Ranchers. You'll know what I'm talking about.

Exert: As I climb the warped steps, I think about the problem with running from your trouble. The problem is in the stopping. The whole time you think you're getting away from everything, the trouble is running like mad, too, trying to catch up with you. And it doesn't slow down when you do-- it keeps on sprinting. So when trouble finally reaches you, it hits hard. - 107

Ninth Grade Slays

Author: Heather Brewer
Pages: 278
Start Date: January 19
Finish Date: January 20
Type: YA Vampire/Mystery; Paperback
Status: My Bookshelf; 2nd in The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod
Rating:

Summary:Freshman year sucks for Vlad Tod. Bullies still harass him. The photographer from the school newspaper is tailing him. And failing his studies could be deadly. A trip to Siberia gives "study abroad" a whole new meaning as Vlad connects with other vampires and advances his mind-control abilities, but will he return home with the skills to recognize a vampire slayer when he sees one? In this thrilling sequel to Eighth Grade Bites, Vlad must confront the secrets of the past and battle forces that once again threaten his life. Find out why author D. J. MacHale calls The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod "Gruesome, heartwarming, spellbinding."

My Review: When I finished the 1st I had to read this! It was a lot more mature and it had more "cool stuff". I don't know another way to say it. And I feel in love with some of the next characters! But what is so cute is the attraction between Vlad and Meredith. It's soooooooooo middle school crush and it shows that Vlad is human! lol

Exert: Joss had sulked the rest of the day, but Vlad wasn't about to apologize. Joss has broken the biggest best friend code there was: thou shalt not date the girl that thy best friend has a crush on. - pg. 100

Cover/Title: The cover seems more scarier and it fits. Once again, the title is flawless.
